The End of the Republic is coming closer

This morning, I read that some more liberals seek to get rid of the Electoral College. Dated they call it. It's not fair that the popular vote doesn't determine the election. On the surface, to those with no clue on how our system works (that would be most of you who attended public school, something our lefty friends have been working on for a while)it sounds fair. Bush didn't even win the popular vote. How can he be President?

But I really shouldn't have to tell you why our liberal friends seek this. It's simple really. When the Electoral College goes away, New York and California and Illinois will elect presidents. Any state under 10 million will be shut out. Candidates will only campaign in the big three or four and ignore the voters (and issues) of the rest of the country. All of the aforementioned states tend Democratic. With this in place, the giant, liberal urban centers will elect more liberals, which means that they'll impose the same kind of big city socialism (high taxes and increased regulation) that many in New York and California flee.

There's a reason why the system is designed the way it is. According to my best friend, big cities tend liberal because millions of people live packed upon each other. In the South, Midwest ('cept Chi-town and the other big cities) and West, spaces are open, people are more self-sufficient, independent and distrust an activist government. They have different concerns than those in the urban centers. But their concerns, which to most liberals are meaningless anyhow because they're from "flyover country," will never be addressed in this new Washington.

It will be Democrats and liberal Republicans now until the end of time. It will be tyranny on a scale you can't imagine. Confiscatory taxes, gun control and insanely labyrinthine regulations will turn our nation into a socialist workers' paradise filled with crime and misery. But the Owl Gores, the John Edwards, the Kennedys and other liberal folks will not be touched by the horror because it will never reach their gated communities.

In that case, it'll either be time to start a new revolution to restore constitutional rule or.... move to Australia.

Private Hudson (Bill Paxton) from Aliens sums up my thoughts on this issue neatly:
